When I look into my six-year-old daughter Kyleigh’s eyes, I see a world of possibility, wonder, and dreams waiting to take flight. As a Black father, my mission has always been to ensure she knows she is loved, cherished, and capable of achieving greatness. Little did I know that our bond would not only inspire her but also spark a movement of change and hope for fathers and daughters everywhere.
Together, we’ve embarked on an incredible journey of writing a book titled My Daddy and Me, celebrating the beautiful relationship between a father and his daughter. This project is more than just a book; it’s a testament to the power of connection, love, and the transformative role fathers play in their children’s lives.
Statistics about Black fathers often miss the truth: Black fathers are present, active, and deeply involved in their children's lives. Studies show that Black fathers, whether living with their children or not, are more likely to engage in activities such as reading, helping with homework, and playing with their kids than fathers from other demographics. Yet, these facts are rarely the headlines.
For daughters, the role of a father is even more profound. Research has shown that a strong father-daughter relationship can enhance a girl's self-esteem, academic success, and emotional resilience. Fathers like me see the world not just for what it is but for what it could be for our daughters—and we fight to build that better tomorrow.
Sitting down with Kyleigh to write this book has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. She’s a bundle of creativity and imagination, and seeing her excitement as we brainstormed ideas, wrote stories, and created characters reminded me of how important it is to nurture our children’s dreams.
In this book, we share everyday moments that matter—like bedtime stories, silly dances, and heart-to-heart talks about being brave and kind. Through these stories, we hope to inspire fathers to be present and intentional and daughters to believe in their limitless potential.

You’re not just cheering us on; you’re part of a larger movement to celebrate Black fatherhood, redefine the narrative, and create lasting change.
This is where it starts—within our families, in the time we spend together, and in the lessons we teach. And together, we are the change the world needs.
I’m beyond excited for what’s ahead, not just for Kyleigh and me but for every father and daughter who will share this journey with us. This is more than a book; it’s a love letter to fathers, daughters, and the powerful relationships that shape our lives.
As Kyleigh often reminds me, “We’re dreamers, Daddy, and dreamers change the world.” And she’s absolutely right.
