In the public relations and communications industry, the numbers tell a story:
- 80% of PR professionals are White.
- Only 8% are Black.
- Hispanic professionals comprise 6%, and Asian professionals account for 6%.
- Everyone else—including Native American, Pacific Islander, and mixed-race professionals—makes up less than 1%.
For decades, the stories that shape public opinion, represent brands and influence culture have been told through a lens that doesn’t fully reflect the diversity of the world.
At Carter Media Group, we know the power of storytelling. We understand that every voice matters, especially the voices that have been historically excluded. That’s why we exist—not just to craft messages, but to rewrite the narrative.
For me, this work is personal.
I grew up in a single-parent, working-class household, facing odds that said I wouldn’t make it. The statistics for Black boys like me didn’t paint a hopeful picture. But I made a promise to God when I was 9 years old: If You get me through this, I’ll do my best to make sure no other child, especially no other Black boy, has to endure what I did.
That promise is what fuels my work.
Representation isn’t just a checkbox—it’s a necessity. It’s about ensuring that the voices shaping our communities look like our communities. That the people behind the messages understand the cultures they’re speaking to.
At Carter Media Group, we’re building bridges. We’re amplifying Black voices, creating opportunities for diverse professionals, and challenging an industry that still has a long way to go.
Here’s what I want you to know: Your voice matters. Your story matters. Whether you’re a small business owner, a nonprofit leader, or a brand with a big vision, we’re here to help you tell your story in a way that connects, inspires, and transforms.
Because when we tell our stories, we don’t just change perceptions—we change lives.
Let’s keep breaking barriers. Let’s keep rewriting the narrative.
