The 2024 presidential election was a moment of profound engagement for Black voters, particularly in Georgia. While Kamala Harris ultimately did not secure the presidency, the efforts of Carter Media Group played a pivotal role in mobilizing Black voter turnout. This blog reflects on the strategies that worked, the partnerships that fueled success, and the lessons learned along the way.
The loss was undeniably a blow to those of us committed to the vision Harris represented. However, as in any movement, setbacks do not diminish the value of progress made. Georgia, in particular, became a battleground for change, and the enthusiasm among Black voters, especially Black men, was a beacon of hope for what the future holds.
Carter Media Group, led by me, Dontaye Carter, brought an intentional, culture-driven approach to Harris’s campaign, focusing on one of the most critical voter demographics: Black men. Through creative, relatable, and data-backed strategies, we helped drive an energized turnout.
Black Men for Harris Event
Carter Media Group collaborated on an impactful event bringing together Atlanta’s Black male leaders, influencers, and voters. The event, hosted in partnership with Atlanta Public School Board Member Alfred “Shivy” Brooks, featured Grammy-winning songwriter Jermaine Dupri, Gathering Spot co-founder Ryan Wilson, Isaac Hayes III of Fanbase, and rising musician Armani Ortiz. This gathering emphasized collective power, showcased the stakes of the election, and reaffirmed the role Black men play in shaping the nation’s future.
Targeted Digital Campaigns
Utilizing geo-targeted ads, QR codes, and culturally resonant messaging, we reached urban and suburban Democratic voters, first-time voters, and undecided Black male voters in competitive districts. The campaign incorporated hashtags like #KamalaHarrisGA, #VoteBlueGA, and #SheWithUs to create a sense of identity and solidarity among Harris’s supporters.
Storytelling Through Creative Media
A mobile billboard featuring Harris’s campaign messaging rotated through neighborhoods across Georgia. We integrated down-ballot candidate endorsements and “Vote Blue” themes, ensuring that voters saw a cohesive narrative of why their vote mattered.
Black male voter turnout was a critical metric for the 2024 election, and Georgia proved to be a bright spot. According to preliminary data:
As Chair of the North Fulton Democrats and a leader in voter engagement, I am proud of the role our community played in amplifying the importance of civic participation. The partnerships forged with influential leaders like Jermaine Dupri, Isaac Hayes III, and Alfred “Shivy” Brooks demonstrated that authentic representation and collaboration are powerful tools for change.
While the loss was difficult, the gains in voter engagement, particularly among Black men, highlight the enduring power of community and culturally specific outreach. Carter Media Group remains committed to this mission, knowing that every vote, every conversation, and every event lays the groundwork for a more inclusive and equitable democracy.
Together, we made history in Georgia. Now, we look forward to building on this foundation for future victories.
